New Forest Fungi Forays
Join Phil Howe, of Hidden Britain Tours, at Fritham in the New Forest National Park for a guided walk with mushroom expert Wendy Otter.
Wendy lives in the Forest, is a member of the British Mycological Society and a
licensed New Forest Forager.
On these gentle informative walks you will explore the unique habitats around the secluded village of Fritham and identify the different species of fungi that grow in this special part of the New Forest.
Wendy will take you on a walk that will enable beginners to identify the characteristics of the many varieties of fungi found here, what is good to eat and what is best left alone, as well as hints on how to collect and cook them. We also identify other wild foods that can be harvested in season.
We meet in the public car park at Fritham at 10.00 and we finish at about 12.45, when we adjourn to one of the Forest’s best kept secrets, The Royal Oak, where locally sourced New Forest Marque drink and food will complete your morning.
Walks will be limited to twenty people to enable good communication.
Please bring suitable clothing for the time of year, a basket, a knife and sturdy footwear.
Phil and Wendy are experienced walk leaders and members of the Institute for Outdoor Learning. All walks have been risk evaluated and assessed and we adhere to the British Mycological Society’s Code of Conduct.
